Kravis Children’s Hospital Among Nation’s Top Centers

For the fourth consecutive year, Kravis Children’s Hospital at Mount Sinai is ranked among the nation’s top pediatric centers in seven of the ten specialties measured by U.S. News & World Report. Impressively, two of those specialties achieved a Top 25 ranking: Pulmonology and Urology, each at No. 21. U.S. News publishes the rankings annually in its “Best Children’s Hospitals” guidebook, which lists the nation’s top 50 children’s hospitals in 10 pediatric specialty areas.

The newly constructed Jo Carole and Ronald S. Lauder Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) opened on Monday, April 4, following a complete renovation and expansion that transformed the unit into a family-centered, therapeutic space equipped with the latest technology.

The NICU is a Level III Regional Perinatal Center, which is the highest designation for complex pediatric care, and provides consultative services to other regional neonatal units. It is located on the third floor of the Klingenstein Pavilion at the Kravis Children’s Hospital at Mount Sinai. (more…)

Dozens of pediatric heart patients who have undergone successful procedures, ranging from valve repairs to heart transplants, recently returned to Kravis Children’s Hospital at Mount Sinai to celebrate life and reconnect with other patients and clinical staff at the Thirtieth Annual Valentine’s Day Reunion Party.

The children enjoyed snacks and face painting activities at the event, which was sponsored by the Hospital’s Division of Pediatric Cardiology and Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Project Sunshine, a nonprofit organization that helps children facing medical challenges. The Children’s Heart Fund and Harboring Hearts also provided support.

Patients and families at Kravis Children’s Hospital at Mount Sinai recently enjoyed a television broadcast hosted by Lori Lerma, MS, Senior Child Life Specialist, and her guest, San Diego Zoo Global Ambassador Rick Schwartz, where a new partnership between Kravis Children’s Hospital and San Diego Zoo Global was announced.

The partnership adds the San Diego Zoo Kids Channel, a new and innovative closed-circuit television broadcast channel featuring family-friendly, animal-oriented shows to the existing programming offered at Kravis Children’s Hospital by KidZone TV. The hospital is the first in New York State to provide the channel, which has more than 16 hours of content. (more…)

For the 19th consecutive holiday season, The Shakira Hyman Foundation has donated toys and other gifts to pediatric and adult oncology patients at The Mount Sinai Hospital. The foundation, created by Madeline Green in honor of her late daughter Shakira, recently delivered toys to the Child Life Zone at Kravis Children’s Hospital at Mount Sinai.
