The Department of Graduate Medical Education at Mount Sinai Beth Israel held its 13th Annual Resident and Fellow Research Fair on Thursday, May 7. Judges reviewed 100 abstracts covering a wide range of topics and selected three that will receive a prize at the hospital’s graduation ceremony on Wednesday, June 10. Additionally, 10 semifinalists will represent Mount Sinai Beth Israel at the Sixth Annual Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Consortium for Graduate Medical Education Resident and Fellow Research Day on Friday, June 5.

The three winning abstracts were: “Emergency Department Patients—Who is Going to Fall?”—Hyunjoo Lee, MD, Loan Hoang, MD, Nikki Bhogal, PharmD, Samantha Cohen, PharmD, and Saadia Akhtar, MD (Faculty); “Does Oral Beta-blocker Therapy Improve Long-term Mortality in ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction with Preserved Systolic Function? A meta-analysis of observational studies”—Naoki Misumida, MD, Kishore Harjai, MD (Faculty), Steven Kernis, MD (Faculty), and Yumiko Kanei, MD (Faculty); and “Exercise Behaviors in Diabetics at an Underserved Primary Care Clinic: A Survey Study”—Ariel Nassim, DO, Carla Canepa, MD, Jeffrey Hollis, MD, Eliud Sifonte, MD, and Alan Tso, MD (Attending Physician).
